Re: Putting green speeds & Bunker shots

  Hey guys, just have a couple of questions.

  1.  Is there a chart/table/website ect. that will allow me to simply convert the distance a putt will go on the varying green speeds?  For example  a 20ft putt on standard speed I would Imagine would go approx 20ft (in this example there are no breaks and no wind), but how would you calculate that distance on say a fast green, very fast, tournament, championship etc?  20ft - ?, 20ft x ?, 20ft ÷ ? ect.  I know it won't be EXACTLY accurate I'm just looking for a generalize formula to get me inside the ballpark from which to start.

  2.  Same type of question as for putting EXCEPT this time for bunker shots.  As an example of this question I found someplace on the net where a simple formula was distance+elevation=x then multiply x by 1.3.  The poster said that would get you in the ballpark.  Of course the poster also said there are other considerations as well but that formula was a good starting point.  Something like that for both.

  I can do the calculations myself I just need a guide on where to start.  I know there are many other things that come into play, lie, elevation, wind, wind direction ect.  I'm just looking for a starting point... if one exists.  Thanks.

  				Let's say we are using the 60' meter and are on a T11 green….Each mark on the meter ( not including the 25% and the 75% ) = 7.8'……Meaning, if you hit the meter @ the 3rd mark, the ball should roll 23.4'………I can make more charts also……………

  One, from 30/40 FW bunkers, don't expect more than 70 yds from any club. Best results with PW, full shot, neutral to slight back spin.

  Two, you need proper wedges. Starters don't work any good from bunkers. Any wedges won't hold well on the greens because the spin's effect is minimized from bunkers and rough, but they will at least pop the ball out quite reliably.

  Three, I once was told "+6 yds" (from 30/40 bunkers), and this seems to be a good start.

  Four, shot length vs. power % is strongly nonlinear. Do some practice and make notes on FWs.

  hate 2 disagree with ya. but you r wrong......

  always pitch from bunker using 3.4 top spin....... do not worry about the % in which the ball is buried....

  for example........

  in the bunker 20yrds from pin and lets say 6 ft of elevation........

  i would pitch @ 22yrds with 3/4 top spin...... the ball should go in or be within 1 yrd........

  other than that...... divide the buried % by 3 and +/- it to distance..... and wind obviously....

  in bunker @ 40 -50% 127 yrds from pin and a headwind of 7mph..........

  45 divided by 3= 15 + 127 = 142 + 7 for wind + 149...........

  you would hit the ball @ 150 with no spin....... 155 with back spin and 145 with topspin......
