can anyone give me some advice on reading high winds at St Andrews, on the 10th hole par 3 I had a 27 mph tailwind, I hit the ball at 160 and it went 157yds into the rough at the front of the green, and similarly I hit a flop shot at 19yds full power for it to go only 15yds, does the wind blow directly down as oppossed to from behind on some of the holes?

It certainly makes shot selection very tricky, are there any other holes where the wind blows from the sky to the ground or is it just these 2?

    Regards

    Adam

I noticed similar too on that hole. It is slightly uphill and tail wind makes your arc flying lower , so your iron may not clear it. But, once it falls it will run like crazy.

No easy way getting close with that wind

If you mean  # 11  play full backspin and land on the green but left of bunker and if your lucky it will go long but stop and roll back  pin high  18 to 20 yards left of the pin .

Funny but I always beleived the 10th was a par 4. Maybe I wouldn't overshoot that damn green in the prescence of a tailwind if I dinidn't use my driver.

On a more serious note I'd do what he said.
