On Kiawah hole 15 I was putting. Line was good right at the hole.
But the ball hit the flag(!) and bumped 180 degrees back 0.3 ft.
I lost my birdie ok, but my question is why was the flag there at all?
This was a regular put, not chip or something from outside the green.

    Tom.

Yes. that really sucks when the ball hits the pole, that really needs to be tweaked

You must have been on the fringe and didn't recognize it.  The flag isn't in when you are solidly on the green.

When you're on the surface of the green (not the fringe) the flag is not physically in the hole.  The flagstick graphic is there on longer putts to assist you in seeing the hole location.  As you close in on the hole it begins to fade away.

Since tibbets never hits approaches outside of 7 feet, he probably never noticed. :)

With that being said, I'd like to have the option to turn off the flagstick graphic on the green.  The flag waving in the breeze is just one more moving object I want to shut off to keep lag minimized.
